Know your bones - Own your Health

Don’t wait until there’s a problem

Why Act Now? - Your Bones, Your Health

Waiting for a fracture to reveal bone loss is a risk you don’t need to take. A DEXA bone density scan gives you the upper hand – here’s why it’s worth it and why it matters to you:

  • It’s About You: If you’re over 40, have a family history of osteoporosis, or just want to stay ahead, this is your chance to take control.

  • Spot Trouble Early: Catch bone loss before it turns into broken bones or osteoporosis – prevention beats recovery every time.

  • Stay Strong for Life: Know your bone health now, so you can keep doing what you love – from hiking to hugging grandkids – without worry.

  • Peace of Mind: A quick, painless scan tells you exactly where you stand, replacing guesswork with confidence.

Your Bones Won’t Warn You – But a DEXA Scan Will!

Osteoporosis impacts over 10 million Americans, and millions more are at risk of weak bones that could fracture unexpectedly.

  • You might wonder: “Could this happen to me? Am I losing bone strength without realizing it?”

  • Bone loss is sneaky: It happens silently – no pain, no symptoms – until a fall or fracture exposes the problem. By then, it might be too late to fully recover from the damage.

  • A DEXA bone density scan is key: It lets you catch issues early, before they become broken bones or a life-changing diagnosis.

  • With one quick, painless scan, you’ll know where you stand and can take steps to safeguard your strength for the future.

What you can do to maintain strong bones

You have the power to keep your bones strong and healthy with a few simple habits. Alongside getting a DEXA scan to monitor your bone density, here’s how you can build and maintain strength every day:

  • Get Enough Calcium: Calcium is the building block of strong bones. Aim for 1,000-1,200 mg per day, depending on your age and gender. You can get it from:

    • Dairy like milk, yogurt, or cheese (a cup of milk has about 300 mg).

    • Leafy greens like kale or broccoli.

    • Fortified foods like orange juice or cereal.

    • Supplements if needed

  • Power Up with Exercise: Physical activity strengthens bones and improves balance to prevent falls. Try these:

    • Weight-bearing exercises: Walking, jogging, or dancing (30 minutes most days keeps bones active).

    • Strength training: Lifting weights or using resistance bands 2-3 times a week builds bone density.

    • Balance boosters: Yoga or tai chi to stay steady on your feet.

  • Don’t Forget Vitamin D: It helps your body absorb calcium. Aim for 600-800 IU daily through sunlight, fatty fish (like salmon), or supplements. If you are unsure if you are getting enough speak with your doctor about getting your level checked.

  • Act Fast if Issues Arise: If your DEXA scan or symptoms suggest a problem, see your doctor early – catching bone health concerns sooner can make all the difference in treatment and recovery.

By pairing these steps with regular DEXA screenings, you’re setting yourself up for a future of strong, resilient bones.
